Getting started
What can I save in Mealmory?
Save dishes, photos, recipes, notes, meal dates, restaurants, individual visits, ratings, and places. You can log the same dish on multiple days; each meal remains a separate diary entry.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No Mealmory account is required. Your diary works on your device without a network connection. Internet access is needed for features such as iCloud sync, Apple Maps place search, and App Store purchase checks.
Can I change a photo or plate without losing the original?
Yes. Photo framing, resizing, plate selection, and on-device background removal use non-destructive editing. The original photo is retained alongside the editing information.
Is older meal history locked behind Plus?
No. Your full diary and meal history are available on the free plan, without a 90-day viewing limit. Mealmory Plus increases the active-restaurant limit and unlocks extra designs; high-resolution export and all past entries remain free.
iCloud & your data
How does iCloud synchronization work?
Mealmory is local-first. iCloud Sync is enabled by default and can be turned off in Mealmory → Settings → Data → iCloud Sync. When enabled, supported diary records, photos, and custom plates can sync through the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account. Turning sync off stops future synchronization but does not delete records already stored in iCloud.
Sync happens asynchronously; the status shown in Settings indicates account and sync health, not an exact percentage or a guarantee that every record has finished syncing.
Why aren't my meals appearing on another device?
- Check that both devices use the same Apple Account for iCloud.
- Make sure iCloud access is available for Mealmory and both devices have a network connection.
- Open Mealmory on each device and allow time for CloudKit to import the records and photos.
- Check the iCloud Sync status in Mealmory's Settings. If the issue continues, contact us with a diagnostic report.
Do not use “Clear All Data” to troubleshoot a sync delay.
Do my nickname and avatar sync too?
Not currently. Your nickname and avatar are stored on the device. They may be different on your iPhone and Mac, even when diary records are synchronized.
What's the difference between “Clear All Data” and rebuilding the local database?
Clear All Data in Settings is intended to erase your diary records and propagate the deletion to your synchronized devices. It requires confirmation and cannot be treated as reversible. Cloud synchronization may take time to finish.
Rebuild local database is an advanced recovery action shown when the local database cannot open. It discards the local database without deleting your iCloud records; synchronized data may download again. It is not a substitute for a backup.
Can I make a full manual backup?
Mealmory does not currently provide a one-tap export and import of its entire diary database. Supported data can synchronize through your private iCloud database, but iCloud synchronization should not be confused with an independent, versioned backup. You can export individual share images from the app.
Plus & purchases
What's included for free? What does Plus unlock?
Free: unlimited dishes and full diary history, up to two active restaurants, on-device background removal, and free high-resolution 2048 × 2048 PNG card exports.
Plus: unlimited active restaurants, six exclusive digital plate designs, more paper and tablecloth styles, and custom plate creation. Six glass-style digital plate designs are sold separately as an optional in-app purchase; they are not physical tableware. Plus is offered as monthly, yearly, or lifetime access; prices are shown in the app.
How do I restore a Mealmory Plus purchase?
Open Mealmory → Settings → Mealmory Plus and choose Restore Purchases. Make sure you're using the Apple Account associated with the purchase and that the device can reach the App Store. Purchases are managed and verified through Apple's StoreKit system.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Monthly and yearly subscriptions are managed by Apple. On iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, then select Mealmory to manage or cancel. On Mac, use your Apple Account subscription management in the App Store.
A lifetime purchase is a one-time, non-renewing purchase; it does not need cancellation. Uninstalling the app does not cancel an active subscription.
I paid for Plus, but it still looks like the free plan. What should I do?
Confirm the purchase is active in your Apple purchase history, check network access, then use Restore Purchases on Mealmory's Plus screen. If it still doesn't work, email us with your app version, device model, and a description of what you see. Please do not send payment-card details or your Apple Account password.
Troubleshooting
My photos haven't reappeared after installing on a new device.
Photos can take longer than text records to arrive through iCloud. Check the same Apple Account, iCloud availability, and your connection, then give the app time to import. Avoid clearing data or rebuilding the database merely to make photos download faster.
Why does the map ask for location access?
Mealmory requests location permission when you choose to use your current location, not just because you opened the map. You can search for places without granting current-location access. If you want nearby results, check Mealmory's Location permission in the system Settings.
Can I recover a restaurant I accidentally removed?
If you deleted a restaurant using the app's soft-delete action, open Settings → Data → Deleted Restaurants to restore it. That option appears only when there are deleted restaurants to recover. Clearing all data is different and should not be used for recovery.
How do I report a bug or share diagnostics?
Open Mealmory → Settings → System → Diagnostics, generate a report, and use the share control if you'd like to attach it to your email. Reports are generated locally and are not automatically sent to us.
Please mention your device and OS version, app version, the steps to reproduce the issue, and what you expected to happen. Review a report before sharing and leave out sensitive photos or personal details you don't want to send.
Still need a hand?
Tell us what happened, which device you're using, and the steps you've already tried. You can attach a diagnostic report from the app if it would help us investigate.
