1. Privacy summary

Mealmory does not operate a separate server for your food diary, use advertising trackers, or run a server-based analytics service. Your diary stays on your device; if iCloud Sync is enabled, supported records are synchronized through Apple CloudKit.

The app is built so that your meal records remain under your control. Most app data lives on your device. If you turn on iCloud synchronization, supported records are stored and synchronized using Apple’s CloudKit service in the private database connected to your Apple Account.

2. Information stored by the app

Depending on how you use Mealmory, the app may store:

  • dishes, meal dates, categories, notes, and recipes;
  • restaurant records, visits, and ratings;
  • places and location information you choose to attach;
  • original food photos and edited image data;
  • custom plate designs and visual preferences;
  • app settings and local profile details such as a nickname or avatar.

These records are used to provide the features you request. Mealmory does not require a Mealmory account to maintain your food diary.

3. Photos and on-device processing

When you add a photo, Mealmory may process it on your device for cropping, composition, display, export, and background removal. Background removal uses Apple Vision technology on-device. The app keeps original and edited image information so later edits do not need to repeatedly recompress the original image.

If a photo contains location metadata and you choose a feature that uses it, Mealmory may use that metadata to help with place-related features.

4. iCloud and CloudKit synchronization

If iCloud Sync is available, it is enabled by default and can be turned off in Mealmory Settings. When enabled, supported app data may sync through Apple CloudKit, including dishes, restaurants, visits, diary entries, categories, photos, and custom plate designs.

Turning iCloud Sync off stops future synchronization but does not delete records already stored in iCloud. If you want to remove synchronized diary data, use the in-app “Clear All Data” action and allow the deletion to sync.

The CloudKit database used by Mealmory is a private database associated with your Apple Account. Mealmory does not operate a separate server that can browse your private food diary.

If you are not signed in to iCloud or synchronization is unavailable, the app can continue to operate locally, but your data may not synchronize between devices.

Cloud synchronization is asynchronous. A newly installed device may need time to download records. Reinstalling the app or rebuilding only the local database does not necessarily delete records already stored in iCloud.

5. Location information

Mealmory uses location access only for features that need it. Opening the map or place-related screens does not by itself request your current location. The app requests location permission when you actively choose an action such as using your current location.

If you grant permission, location information is used to provide the requested nearby-place or mapping feature. You can change location permissions at any time in your device settings.

6. Apple and third-party services

Website hosting

When you visit mealmory.app, the website host may process basic technical request information—such as your IP address, browser or device type, requested URL, and request time—to deliver the site, maintain security, and troubleshoot errors. Website request logs are separate from your in-app diary; Mealmory does not link them to your food records.

Some features communicate with platform or third-party services:

  • Apple CloudKit for optional synchronization through your Apple Account;
  • Apple Maps / MapKit for place search and map-related functionality;
  • Apple StoreKit for product information, purchases, entitlements, and restoration;
  • External navigation apps, such as Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Amap, when you choose to open directions.

Those services are operated by their respective providers and are subject to their own privacy policies. When Mealmory hands an action to another app or service, that provider may process information according to its own terms.

7. Purchases

In-app purchases are processed by Apple. Mealmory receives the information needed through StoreKit to determine product availability and your entitlement status, but it does not receive your full payment-card details.

8. Tracking, advertising, and analytics

Mealmory does not use advertising trackers. The current app privacy manifest declares tracking as disabled and declares no collected data types.

Mealmory may create technical diagnostic logs on your device to help troubleshoot app behavior. Diagnostic reports are generated locally and are not automatically sent to Mealmory. The export is limited to an allowlisted set of technical events and app, device, and build metadata; it is designed to exclude diary content, including dish or restaurant names, addresses, photos, search terms, and precise coordinates. If you choose to share a report or other support material, we use what you send to investigate and respond to your request.

9. Local settings and profile details

Some settings are stored locally using system preferences. At the time of this policy, the app’s nickname and avatar are local to the device and are not part of Mealmory’s CloudKit synchronization model.

10. Deleting your data

Mealmory provides an in-app “Clear All Data” action intended to remove your diary records and, when iCloud Sync is enabled and available, propagate deletion to supported synchronized records on your other devices. CloudKit synchronization is asynchronous, so deletion may take time to reach every device.

Uninstalling the app or turning off iCloud Sync does not delete records already stored in iCloud. To remove synchronized diary data, use “Clear All Data” while signed in to the relevant Apple Account and allow synchronization to complete.

11. Data retention

Local data remains on your device until you remove it, reset it, or the operating system removes app storage. Cloud-synchronized data remains subject to your use of Mealmory, your deletion actions, and Apple’s CloudKit behavior. Purchase history and transaction records may be retained by Apple under Apple’s own policies and legal obligations.

12. Security

Mealmory relies on platform security controls provided by iOS, macOS, your device, and your Apple Account. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, but the app is designed to minimize unnecessary transfer of your diary data and to avoid maintaining a separate Mealmory user-data server.

13. Children

Mealmory is a general-audience food diary and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information through a Mealmory-operated account system. If applicable law requires parental permission for a child’s use of device, cloud, or purchase features, the responsible adult should manage those permissions through the relevant Apple account and device controls.

14. International use

Apple and other service providers used by the app may process information in locations determined by their own infrastructure and policies. Your rights may vary depending on where you live. Nothing in this policy is intended to limit mandatory privacy rights under applicable law.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Mealmory changes or as legal and platform requirements evolve. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised when changes are published. Material changes will be communicated in an appropriate manner where required.
